Celebrating Luxembourg’s National Day: Creativity, Partnership and a Shared Vision for Kosovo’s Future

On 23 June 2026, the Embassy of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in Pristina marked Luxembourg's National Day with a reception that brought together representatives of Kosovo's institutions, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, the private sector and the country's vibrant cultural and creative community.

Hosted on the rooftop of the Embassy, the event celebrated the close and longstanding partnership between Luxembourg and Kosovo, underscoring the shared values and common vision that continue to guide cooperation between the two countries in advancing sustainable development, innovation, inclusion and opportunity.

A particular highlight of this year's celebration was a fashion showcase featuring 14 Kosovo fashion brands and designers, reflecting Luxembourg's longstanding commitment to supporting Kosovo's creative sector. By placing creativity at the heart of the National Day reception, the Embassy sought to spotlight a field that is increasingly contributing to entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development. The collections presented throughout the evening offered guests an inspiring glimpse into the talent, craftsmanship and entrepreneurial spirit of Kosovo's designers, while demonstrating the growing potential of the creative economy to generate jobs, encourage innovation and enhance Kosovo's visibility on the international stage.

More than a showcase of fashion and design, the event highlighted the transformative role that cultural and creative industries can play in fostering inclusive and resilient societies. Luxembourg firmly believes that investing in talent, skills and entrepreneurial potential helps unlock new opportunities for young people, strengthen communities and encourage cross-sector innovation. The fashion showcase therefore celebrated not only artistic expression, but also the capacity of Kosovo's creative sector to contribute to the country's long-term social and economic progress.

Over the past years, Luxembourg has established itself as one of the leading international partners supporting the development of Kosovo's creative industries. Through a comprehensive programme implemented in partnership with UNDP and national institutions, Luxembourg has helped foster an enabling environment where creativity can drive sustainable growth, innovation, quality employment and entrepreneurial development.

Support has focused on strengthening the sector's institutional and policy framework, including the development of Kosovo's draft Creative Economy Strategy 2025-2036, the introduction of incentives for the film and audiovisual industry, and the establishment of tools and data systems that promote evidence-based policymaking and long-term sector development.

Recognising that talent is the creative economy's most valuable asset, Luxembourg has placed particular emphasis on education, skills development and professional pathways for young people. More than 1,000 individuals have benefited from training, education, and capacity-building initiatives, including students, teachers, civil servants, and independent creative sector professionals, with women representing the majority of participants. From specialised training delivered by Luxembourgish professionals and internship opportunities within creative enterprises to the establishment of a Fashion Design programme attended by 150 students, these investments aim to equip the next generation of professionals with the skills needed to succeed in an increasingly competitive and innovative environment.

At the local level, Luxembourg's support has contributed to the revitalisation of key cultural and creative spaces across Kosovo, including the Ulpiana Art Centre, the Marec creative space and the Hivzi Sylejmani Library in Pristina, as well as the renovation of the Concert Hall at the Music School in Prizren. These investments have expanded opportunities for artistic production, cultural participation and community engagement, while strengthening the infrastructure that underpins Kosovo's creative ecosystem. In parallel, Luxembourg has supported the growth of creative entrepreneurship through a dedicated financial support mechanism, enabling 51 enterprises to access funding in its first phase, with additional support planned for more than 20 businesses.

Together, these initiatives are helping to build a stronger and more dynamic ecosystem across Kosovo, capable of generating innovation, employment and new opportunities for entrepreneurs and artists alike. By investing in infrastructure, skills development, business growth and policy reform, Luxembourg has sought to create the conditions for culture and creativity to thrive as drivers of sustainable economic and social development.

With its young population, vibrant entrepreneurial spirit and growing pool of talent, Kosovo is well positioned to further develop its creative economy and strengthen its presence on the regional and international stage. Luxembourg believes that the sector holds significant potential to contribute to economic diversification, competitiveness and cultural exchange, and remains committed to supporting its continued advancement in the future through bilateral development cooperation, creating opportunities for creative professionals, entrepreneurs and future generations.

As Luxembourg celebrated its National Day, the evening offered a powerful reminder that diplomacy is not only built through institutions and policies, but also through people, talent and cultural exchange. The creativity showcased throughout the event reflected not only the achievements of Kosovo's fashion sector, but also a broader vision of a dynamic, innovative and prosperous future that Luxembourg is proud to support alongside its partners in Kosovo.
